  • Stephan Bachinger

    Stephan (27) arrived in Israel on December 2010 from Germany. As a continuation of his academic studies in film, Stephan wanted study in the Sam Shpiegel Film School in Jerusalem. Having no previous background in Hebrew, Stephan was facing a real challenge; he needed to finish level Bet before February 2011 in 2 months' time. The challenge was even greater as he was only moving to Jerusalem in mid-January meaning that Stephan had even less time at his disposal.

  • Ruth Fazal

    Ruth Fazal is a musician (violinist primarily) from Canada who started to study with Ulpan Aviv in June 2010. We can all remember the day when Ruth entered the Ulpan, eyes full of passion to learn. During the initial evaluation of her Hebrew level, Ruth explained how eager she was to start a journey with Hebrew after having done some lessons here and there. Starting in Level Bet, Ruth continued and progressed more and more with her studies. After taking the Aviv course (10 days) in Jerusalem, Ruth signed up for the Ulpan Aviv on-line program so that she could continue learn from her home in Canada. Taking more and more courses, and visiting Israel for another intensive course in March 2011, Ruth is now able to express herself in Hebrew, writing essays (beautiful) about her fascinating experiences and ideas, master the grammar system in Hebrew, and more. All of Ruth's fields of interest, such as Israeli/Jewish music, Texts, and even some prayers, were and continue to be taken into consideration in designing her curriculum.

  • Bram Kortums

    Coming from Holland with no previous knowledge of Hebrew, Bram started to study with Ulpan Aviv in August of this year. Bram lives in Southern Israel, on a Kibutz next to Ashkelon and has been travelling the not so short distance between Askelon and our TLV branch in order to study 3 times a week. Staring with getting to know the Alef-Beit and moving on to sentence structure and conversational skills, Bram was also introduced to Hebrew grammar.

  • Chris Zalman

    Chris Zalman left his home and family in New Jersey to make Aliya and to join the army. He came to Israel as part of a MASA programme whereby post-high school teenagers from America live together in shared appartments in Jerusalem and Tel Aviv and volunteer in schools amongst other places.

  • Joe Dwek

    Joe and his wife arrived in Israel a year ago following his employment at the Jerusalem Foundation. The Jerusalem Foundation supports the growth of Jerusalem as a pluralistic, tolerant and cultural society and despite his work being primarily in English, Joe was anxious to learn the Hebrew language in order integrate in to Israeli society.

    Alicja first came to Ulpan Aviv in December 2011. The connection was made through the Ulpan Aviv Facebook page in which Alicja actively participated. Finally, she decided to come for a first attempt at learning Hebrew in Israel.
