BaMidbar

The Book of BAMIDBAR (“Numbers”) is also known as:

“חוּמָּשׁ הַפְּקוּדִים”
CHUMASH HAPEKUDIM
The Book of Counting

Due to the simple reason of God counting the Israelites over and over again. Jewish commentaries explain that this is done in order to show God’s affection to His people, like a man who counts his fortune over and over.
The Book of Bamidbar tells the “story” of the Israelites walking in the desert and all of their endeavors until they arrive at the last point before entering the promised land of Israel.
The Book of Bamidbar includes interesting descriptions of the developing relationship between the people and the Lord (and vice versa), of leadership in rough times, and of a journey to a national and personal identity.
